A silver lining is a metaphor for optimism which means a negative occurrence may have a positive aspect to it.
-There could be a silver lining to getting laid off—you might find a job you actually like!
-Don’t worry, every cloud has a silver lining. We have learned a lot from the experience.
Amy: When you were married, did your wife cook?
Dave: Not at first, no. But when she began cheating on me with a French chef, she became quite the wiz in the kitchen.
Amy: So, a little silver lining.
Dave: I suppose. Yeah.
